About Us

The heart of our mission lies in personal connections and spending quality time with individuals. We provide not only practical assistance but also, just as importantly, companionship and dedicated time.

We listen with kindness, compassion, and understanding, always in confidence. This is what we call ‘befriending’.

St Vincent de Paul Society

The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) is a global charitable organization, founded in France in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam with the mission to “embrace the whole world in a network of charity.” Today, the SVP operates in 150 countries, including England and Wales, where over 10,000 members provide friendship and support through regular visits or phone calls.

Saint Vincent de Paul (1581-1660)

Vincent de Paul was a French, Catholic priest who dedicated himself to charity, and was renowned for his compassion and humility. He was canonized in 1737. He is the patron saint of all charitable associations.

St Vincent de Paul in St James’ Parish

Recognizing the growing issues of isolation, loneliness, and the challenges some people face with daily life, our parish priest, Fr Ulick, invited the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) to establish a local group, known as a “conference,” at St James.
